This money may be needed at a most critical time. I know from experience that 60 days later and repeated phone calls and repeated faxing information still doesn't change the way or the timing when death benefits are paid out to the bereaved.

It was news, not shocking, that this "industry" is unregulated to a point. I've always maintained that if you pay the premium then the company is required to make a payment. However, the companies have a delaying tactic to ensure that they make a profit. Prewarned is prearmed

It is a shame that Congress can't assist the military families by ensuring that payment of benefits is sent immediately on receipt of a death certificate or anyone else. I suppose the members of Congress don't think that this money may be needed by the families to deal with all the costs associated with a death. The VA only pays out a maximum of $3,000. Hardly enough in this time to have a "proper" funeral.
